Now this initiative is part of the  project "Need based Integrated E-Learning System for Agricultural Technology Transfer by Using Hybrid Approach", which is being supported by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan through its Technology Development Fund (TDF). Engro Fertilizers Ltd. is industrial partner for this project.

 

The farmer-outreach and agriculture extension systems in Pakistan face major challenges of cost-effective outreach and need based extension. The weak linkage between extension, research and farmers limits the effectiveness of agricultural research and extension to contribute towards the agricultural development. In this context, this online interactive agricultural information portal has been developed by the Institute of Agri. Extension & Rural Development (University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan) for bridging the communication gap between the researchers, agricultural scientists and the farming community. This initiative is complementing the existing extension system through the use of information and communication technology.

This Cyber Agricultural Extension project (ICT based Ag. Extension or simply Cyber Extension)  is being implemented at the Cyber Extension Laboratory of the Institute of Agri. Extension and Rural Development, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Pakistan.  Initially the project was funded by Endowment Funds Secretariat of the University and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Department of Agriculture (Extension and Adaptive Research), Government of the Punjab is also a partner of this initiative. We are also collaborating with Directorate of Agricultural Information, Government of the Punjab, Lahore (Pakistan).
